forever a traveler
First it was moving every two years as a kid, following my dad’s job relocations. Then, as an adult, squeezing trips into my (insulting) two week per year vacations.
But when I quit my corporate office job, I really started traveling.
All the #vanlife youtubers during Covid convinced me to live out of my car and hit the road. So at 27 years old, in March 2022, I went on a road trip.
I had a flight booked to Iceland at the end of May, but until then, I was free to roam.
Originally, I had big plans to drive up to the Canadian border and back down the west coast. In 2 months. These were unrealistic plans once I realized how long it took to drive from Houston across west Texas.
Arizona was at least half of the road trip with stops in southern California, southern Utah, and northern New Mexico on the way back home to catch my flight.
Then May 2022 is when the Euro Trip began. First a week in a camper van exploring Iceland’s south rim and then:
France: Paris/Nice
Portugal: Lisbon/Porto/Cascais/ Sintra/Madeira
Switzerland: Zurich
Spain: Barcelona
England: London
Belgium: Brussels
the Netherlands: Amsterdam
Germany: Leipzig/Berlin/Munich
Slovenia: Koper
Italy: Venice
France: Paris
England: London
All those countries in ~3 months.
Rushing through major cities, and expensive country hopping to meet friends here and there. So American.
By the end, I just wanted to return to places I loved (Paris) and catch my flight home from London. In September 2022, I came back to the U.S., and I did a work exchange at a homestead in northern New Mexico until November.
After that, I took a break from traveling to stay home for the holidays until my next big trip: South & Central America.
From New Years 2023, I spent four months exploring:
Colombia: Cartagena/Santa Marta/ Palomino/Bogota
Peru: Amazon Rainforest
Colombia: Salento/Medellin/ Cartagena
Bolivia: Santa Cruz de la Sierra/ Sucre/Uyuni
Argentina: Humahuaca/Buenos Aires
Nicaragua: Leon/San Juan del Sur/ Ometepe Island/Granada
Guatemala: Antigua/San Marcos la Laguna/San Juan la Laguna
Mexico: Mexico City/San Cristobal
And then back to Guatemala for a month to live at Lake Atitlan in San Juan la Laguna. That month was a reset to my nervous system and travel style.
After a quick trip home to regroup, In June 2023 I flew to Goa, India to spend a month earning my 200-hour yoga teacher training.
Yoga has been a staple in my healing journey ever since I found some YouTube videos years ago, and rolled out my cheap mat in living room, searching for a way to feel happier with my life. While I was humbled by my lack of flexibility and focus, it taught me how to reconnect with my body in a new way. I studied one of the more disciplined forms (ashtanga), but I’ve learned to incorporate the traditional teachings into a style that feels less rigid and more fluid by listening to how the body wants to move.
I’m a little stubborn so it took a while to figure out, but now I’m listening:
As you can guess, I’ve got a lot to say about these places and my experiences while learning to trust my intuition and follow my heart. I hope you enjoy what I have to share. While I continue to build this site, catch up on the memories by reading or listening to
If you’ve been feeling a call to do something out of the ordinary, against society's expectations, take the leap.
